We can’t force Yobo on Keshi —NFF

The spokesperson of the board of the Nigeria Football Federation, High Chief EmekaInyama has declared that much as they desire to have Super Eagles captain, Joseph Yobo return to the team for the world cup, they cannot force him on Stephen Keshi, the coach.

Speaking in Abuja, Inyama noted that the NFF board has totally removed themselves from the task of dictating which player should be invited to the Super Eagles or not.

He stated further that they do not plan to deviate from that because the Super Eagles Coach has been churning out the results so far.

“Keshi has been given free hand to select players for the national team. Some of us as members of the board would have loved to see Osaze Odemwingie and Obafemi Martins come back to the team, but Keshi has the total freedom to select whoever he thinks is good for him,” he said.

The Nigeria National League Chairman stressed that their duty as the body that administer football in the country is to give Keshi all the necessary support to enable him do even much more than what he has been able to achieve thus far.

There have been calls from several quarters for Keshi to recall the Fernabahce of Turkey defender so as to strengthen the Super Eagles defence. Though, Keshi has stated on so many occasions that Yobo remained part of his plan, yet he has continued to exclude him from every Super Eagles engagements.

Apart from Yobo, there have also been calls for Keshi to create more competition in the Super Eagles team by inviting Nigerian players who are doing well in their clubs in Europe.

Keshi recently told Newswatch Sports that he had about 100 Nigerian players he pencilled down for invitation when the world cup preparations start.  But he maintained that he cannot invite all of them at the same time.

Some of the players waiting to be recalled to Eagles include; Osaze Odemwingie, Haruna Lukeman, Ike Uche who is currently the third highest goalscorer in the Spanish La Liga, team captain, Joseph Yobo and Obafemi Martins.
