The Governorship candidate of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in the 2012 gubernatorial election in Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN) has emerged as the interim caretaker Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
However, a group of 19 members from the defunct ACN, Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), and All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) boycotted the event on the grounds that they were not fully carried along.
Inaugurating the Akeredolu-led exco in Akure, APC National Vice Chairman, Southwest and former Ekiti State Governor, Otunba Niyi Adebayo informed journalists that he was not aware of any parallel meeting by members of the party.
While saying that the main task of the interim executive is to liaise with the body from the national body to ensure proper registration of members, Otunba Adebayo stressed that the Akeredolu-led interim committee "is the official body of the party in the state".
His words: "The purpose of the inauguration is to kickstart the party in the state. I'm the National Vice Chairman. I've just inaugurated the State Interim Executive Committee.
"The whole essence is that there will be a body here so that when the people come from the National for the registration, there will be a national body in place that they will come to meet who will now advice them on where to go and who to see for the registration of members.
"So, this body should not be in office until much longer. Once the registration had been done and we kickstart the process leading to the congresses, this body will stand dissolved".
Speaking, Akeredolu promised to work assiduously to ensure smooth registration.
"We will start mobilizing people immediately. We are interested in change at the federal, state and local level", he noted.
Other positions include: that of the Secretary which was occupied by a former Commissioner for Information in the state, Prince Olu Adegboro; Chief Ebenezer Akinwekomi (Treasurer); Mr. Tunji Fabiyi (Organizing Secretary) and Rotimi Fasakin (Publicity Secretary) respectively.
Leaders in attendance were Senator Ajayi Boroffice; Hon. Ifedayo Abegunde; Senator Pius Olupitan; Senator Ayo Lawrence; Dr. Paul Akintelure; Mrs. Jumoke Anifowose (nee Ajasin); Dr. Bayo Ademodi; Tunji Abayomi; Wale Akinterinwa among others.
But addressing a press conference in Akure, defunct CPC Chairman, Barr. Olalekan Obolo, who spoke on behalf of CPC, ACN and ANPP told newsmen that 19 dissatisfied members from the three parties boycotted the event.
This, he attributed to "obvious and deliberate attempt at violation of the published guidelines in the constitution and inauguration of the Ondo State Harmonization Committee".
He said: "There is no parallel interim exco and there is no parallel party as we speak. What only happened is that some major stakeholders are dissatisfied with the leadership style employed by the National Vice Chairman, Southwest, Otunba Niyi Adebayo in arriving at the list of attendees for the inauguration and as such, 19 of us did not attend the event in protest.
"We have consequently written to the National Secretariat of the party to ensure that they intervene promptly in other to restore confidence on the leadership at the Southwest level. There is no faction but we are dissatisfied.
Present at the press conference were: defunct CPC guber candidate, Prince Soji Ehinlanwo; his running mate, Mrs Oluyemi Daramola; former ACN Chairman, Chief Sola Iji; Gboyega Adedipe; Bola Ilori and Olufisayo Falarungbon.
